Narn Democracy School (Part I)

narn 2At the “UDD Democracy School” in Narn province on 26 May 2013, Assoc. Prof. Tida Tawonseth gave a speech concerning the current political situation in Thailand in front of 2,000 participants at the event. Mrs.Tida speech is summarized and presented here as follows:

The UDD’s school for democracy in Narn province was the 16th event of its kind where co-leaders of the Red Shirts have travelled to different provinces in Thailand in to provide basic lessons on democracy to anybody that interested in the people’s struggle.

“We are creating co-leaders of democracy for the future in order to safeguard Thailand’s democratic institutions from being over thrown by any kind of coup d’état” said Assoc. Prof. Tida. “Some intellects think that grass root citizens only care about their own well-being and they do not care about politics or democracy. What these intellects fail to realize is that the level of political awareness among the grass root people of Thailand is already beyond this primitive way of thinking. Poor people also want justice and basic human rights, not only the rich and the middle class can enjoy democracy and its benefits.”

(24 June) At dawn on this day, 81 years ago, the People′s Party has established Constitutional regime “for the progress of the Nation”.

That much was proclaimed on the small plaque placed somewhere on the eastern side of Royal Plaza in Bangkok. Overshadowed by the statue of King Rama V where crowds of worshipers can be seen praying to him on any given night, many Bangkokians have driven over that spot on their way to work everyday without realizing the historic significance of the seemingly insignificant memorial.

UDD Press Conference on 19th June 2013

photoAt the press conference of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, Mr. Thanawut Vichaidit (spokesperson for the Red Shirts) warned UDD supporters about the opposition (Am-mart) tactics to try and stir up political turmoil in order to discredit the current government’s ability to keep peace. The opposition is luring Red Shirts followers into engaging in violence against their ground force (the Guy Fawkes Masks protestors) and by spreading perpetual lies through the Democrat Party on their “Pha-Kwam-Jing” (seeking for truths) discussion with the public tour. Mr. Thanawut also urged UDD supporters not to fall into the traps and to stay away from the Guy Fawkes protests and the Democrat Party rallies in the future. This would help lessen political stress on the streets which can be used by the Am-mart as an excuse for another military intervention.
