UDD President attended the 48th National Day of The Republic of Singapore

งานวันชาติสิงคโปร์6On Wednesday, 7th August 2013, Assoc. Prof. Tida Tavonseth, President of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) along with spokesperson, Thanawut Vichaidit, attended the “48th National Day of The Republic of Singapore,” at Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok.

The National Day of Singapore is celebrated every year on 9th August, in commemoration of Singapore’s independence from Malaysia in 1965. This year the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Bangkok decided to celebrate their National Day on the August 7th 2013.

Subject: In response to the OHCHR press briefing on August 6th 2013 in Geneva

1. I appreciate the United Nation concerns about the treatment of human rights in Thailand and throughout the world. I also agree with your suggestion that state officials and others should be held accountable for their role in serious human rights abuses, especially in Thailand, where over 90 people died and thousands were injured during the military crackdown on protestors in 2010.

Court Rules, 6 Wat Prathum Victims Succumbed to Soldier’s Bullets

Today, August 8th 2013, The Southern Criminal Court of Bangkok ruled that six people who were killed in Wat Pathum Wanaram on the last day of 2010 Red Shirts protests, died from bullets fired by soldiers stationed on the BTS (Bangkok mass Transit System) sky train tracks during the Army operation to crackdown on protestors.

The soldiers responsible for the shooting were unidentifiable and according to the court, there were also no presence of “Men in Black Shirts” (MBS) at the crime scenes.

UDD President, Guest at the Swiss National Day Celebrations in Bangkok

On Wednesday 31st July 2013, Assoc. Prof. Tida Tavonseth, President of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) accompanied by Dr. Weng Tojilakarn, Mr. Pakdee and Mrs. Sophie Tanapura was invited by the Ambassador of Switzerland, H.E. Mrs. Christine Schraner Burgener and Mr. Christoph Burgener, to attend the anniversary of the National Day of the Swiss Confederation at the Lert Wanalai Ballroom, Swissotel Nai Lert Park, Bangkok.

Many prominent businessmen and other important figures from Thailand along with ambassadors from various countries also attended the event; Assoc. Prof. Tida briefly met with H.E. Mr. Lhee Boonlum, Laos ambassador to Thailand and they briefly discussed about the current political situations in Thailand.
